About Twin Lakes Computer User Group (TLCUG)
The Twin Lakes Computer User Group in Mountain Home, Arkansas was founded in 19xx. Since then we have grown to over 350 members, mostly retired people. Over 100 people regularly attend our monthy meetings, which meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. These numbers are almost unheard of these days, now that so many people get their help through the internet. Especially for an all volunteer organization. Polls of our members reveal that 95% are using some form of Windows.
Mission Statement:
We are here to support people in greater Mountain Home in learning about and making the most of their computer experience. We will continue to contribute to our community with classes, hardware and a helping hand.
Awards:
We are an APCUG member (Association of ??? PC User Groups) and have won awards for outstanding ___ numerous times. Part of why we keep winning are the special projects we host, including: FREE classes at the library almost every Saturday and Teusday, hosted by club volunteers. The subjects of the classes range from Windows Explorer to MS Office to Greeting Cards and Geneology. We also have volunteers on hand at the library to help guide novice computer users in the basics almost every day of the week. Furthermore, we refurbish old computers for donation to community organizations that could not otherwise afford a computer. And of course there is our mentor program, where we set newbies up with someone they can call with pressing questions and our monthy newletter.
Software Reviews:
As we are starting to get national attention, we receive computer programs to review from large software companies, such as Adobe and Red Hat. All we ask of those wanting to review products for the newsletter is that they write up the review for others to see.
Monthly Meetings:
These meetings are FREE and open to the public. The presentations are targeted at novices, rather than expert users. We are always looking to members for ideas on future presentations. After the formalities, our presentations only last 20-30 minutes. And we are out of there shortly after 8:00 p.m.
Location: XXX Church on Rt 62 by Norcross Ford

Ideas for meetings and the website:
1. Definitions of the day
2. Polls: How many people have considered installing a different OS on their PC? How many people know what an OS is? How many people would be even a little interested in a Geneology Special Interest Group? How many people have created their own web pages? How many would like to learn more about that? How many people write down questions in a text file on the desktop? How many people are using some form of high speed internet, such as Cable modem or DSL? How many people have web sites they visit for definitions or computer help or information?Someone should count the results of such polls and report to the group. While it could be done by show of hands for quick and simple ones, paper forms or email forms could be used to get a better understanding of our population. What they have, what they know, what they need, what they want, what they don't want.
